The
need for redemption is in the heart of the Human race.
We look for someone greater then ourselves to rescue us
from the problems of this life. Job looked forward to
his coming day of redemption, after his death and
decay. Nevertheless, just who is the Messiah? What is
the Messiah’s nature? Is he a great man? Is he an
angel? Is he God? On the other hand, is He the Son of
God? Moreover, how can God have a Son?
Christianity, Islam and Judaism all have a
different view of what is the nature of Messiah. Islam
rejects the Christian view as blasphemous. To Islam the
Messiah is just a great prophet, but Mohammed is the
greatest and final prophet. In Judaism, the belief in
Messiah is a necessary requirement but the Messiah will
be just a man, the greatest of all men but still just a
man. Christians however believe the Messiah (Christ) is
a man but also the “Son of God”. Just how can God have a
Son?
At first glance, the idea of the Messiah
being the Son of God does not make any logical sense.
How and why would God have a Son? If God had a Son,
would there then be two Gods.
The
concept of God is a logical concept as mentioned earlier
based on several points including.
1.
The need for a “First Cause” to bring the Universe into
existence
2.
The intelligence in Creation demands an “Intelligent
Designer”
3.
Morality and Truth also require the existence “Absolute
Truth and Morality”
Our
understanding of whom God is completely dependent of God
revealing Himself. We can acknowledge God’ existence
and necessity through logic, but knowledge of His
identity is dependent on His revelation of Himself.
The “Supernatural” objective evidence proves
the Bible is God’s word. It is through the actions
prophets in the Bible, who witnessed, received
inspiration and recorded the written word is how we know
who God is. The Bible is witnesses to God’s nature and
identity. Therefore, to find out whom the Messiah is
and his nature we need to look to the Bible.
Did God
appear as a man?
To
many Jews and Muslims the idea of God coming into the
physical world as Man seems repulsive. However, from
the early chapters of Genesis it is clear that God took
upon Himself human form. In the very first chapter, man
is made in the image of God. Not God, in the image of
Man. Later we see God walking with Adam and eve in the
Garden. In fact, there are several places in scripture
where God is described as a Man.
-
God
appears at Abraham’s tent as a Man
-
God wrestles with Jacob as a Man
-
Moses and the Elders of Israel see God in Human form
-
God
declares that Moses speaks to God in Human form,
-
God
stands before Joshua as a Man
-
God
in Daniel is called the Ancient of Days and is
described in Human form.
-
Ezekiel describes the Glory of the LORD as a Man

1.
In the Garden
26Then
God said, “Let Us make man in Our image,
according to Our likeness; let them have
dominion over the fish of the sea, over the
birds of the air, and over the cattle, over
all the earth and over every creeping
thing that creeps on the earth.”
Genesis 1:26
8And
they heard the sound of the
Lord
God walking in the garden in the cool of the
day, and Adam and his wife hid themselves from
the presence of the
Lord
God among the trees of the garden.
Genesis 3:8

The image of man comes from God’s likeness. God
takes Human form in his fellowship with man in
the Garden of Eden. |

At the Tent with Abraham
1Then
the Lord appeared to him by the terebinth trees of
Mamre, as he was sitting in the tent door in the
heat of the day. 2So he lifted his
eyes and looked, and behold, three men were
standing by him; and when he saw them, he
ran from the tent door to meet them, and bowed
himself to the ground, 3and said, “My
Lord, if I have now found favor in Your sight,
do not pass on by Your servant. 4Please
let a little water be brought, and wash your
feet, and rest yourselves under the tree. 5And
I will bring a morsel of bread, that you may
refresh your hearts. After that you may pass by,
inasmuch as you have come to your servant.”
They said, “Do as you have said.”….
16Then the men rose from there and looked toward
Sodom, and Abraham went with them to send them
on the way. 17And the
Lord
said, “Shall I hide from Abraham what I am
doing,,…
22Then
the men turned away from there and went toward
Sodom,
but Abraham still stood before the LORD.
Genesis 18: 1-5, 16-17, 22
1Now
the two angels came to Sodom in the
evening, and Lot was sitting in the gate of
Sodom. When Lot saw them, he rose to meet
them, and he bowed himself with his face toward
the ground. Genesis 19:1

Jacob wrestled with a Man
24Then
Jacob was left alone; and a Man wrestled with
him until the breaking of day. 25Now
when He saw that He did not prevail against him,
He touched the socket of his hip; and the socket
of Jacob’s hip was out of joint as He wrestled
with him. 26And He said, “Let Me go,
for the day breaks.”But he said, “I will not let
You go unless You bless me!”27So
He said to him, “What is your name?”He
said, “Jacob.”28And
He said, “Your name shall no longer be called
Jacob, but Israel; for you have
struggled with God and with men, and have
prevailed.”…..30So
Jacob called the name of the place Peniel:
“For I have seen God face to face, and my
life is preserved.”

Moses and the Elders of
Israel See God
9Then
Moses went up, also Aaron, Nadab, and Abihu, and
seventy of the elders of Israel, 10and
they saw the God of Israel. And there was
under His feet as it were a paved work of
sapphire stone, and it was like the very heavens
in its clarity. 11But on the
nobles of the children of Israel He did not lay
His hand. So they saw God, and they ate and
drank.12Then
the Lord said to Moses, “Come up to Me on the mountain and be
there; and I will give you tablets of stone, and
the law and commandments which I have written,
that you may teach them.”
Exodus 24:12
11So
the Lord spoke to Moses face to face, as a man speaks to his
friend. And he would return to the camp, but his
servant Joshua the son of Nun, a young man, did
not depart from the tabernacle..…..
22So it shall be, while My glory passes
by, that I will put you in the cleft of the
rock, and will cover you with My hand while I
pass by. 23Then I will take away My
hand, and you shall see My back; but My face
shall not be seen.”

God talks to Moses about his appearance
6Then
He said,
“Hear now My words: If there is a prophet among
you I, the Lord, make Myself known to him
in a vision;
I speak to him in a dream.
7
Not so with My servant Moses; He is
faithful in all My house.
8
I speak with him face to face,Even
plainly, and not in dark sayings;
And he sees the form of the LORD. Why
then were you not afraid
To speak against My servant Moses?”

Commander of the Lord’s Army appears to Joshua
13And
it came to pass, when Joshua was by
Jericho, that he lifted his eyes and looked, and behold, a Man
stood opposite him with His sword drawn in His
hand. And Joshua went to Him and said to Him, “Are
You for us or for our adversaries?”14So
He said, “No, but as Commander of the
army of the
Lord
I have now come.”
And Joshua fell on his face to the earth and
worshiped, and said to Him, “What does my Lord
say to His servant?”
15Then
the Commander of the
Lord’s
army said to Joshua, “Take your sandal off your
foot, for the place where you stand is
holy.” And Joshua did so.. Joshua 5:13-15

Ancient of Days & Son of Man
9
“I watched till thrones were put in place,
And the Ancient of Days was seated;
His garment was white as
snow,
And the hair of His head
was like pure wool.
His throne was a fiery
flame,
Its wheels a burning fire;
10
A fiery stream issued
And came forth from before Him.
A thousand thousands ministered
to Him;
Ten thousand times ten thousand
stood before Him.
The court was
seated,
And the books were opened.
13
“I was watching in the night visions,
And behold, One
like the Son of Man,
Coming with the clouds of
heaven!
He came to the Ancient of
Days,
And they brought Him near before
Him.
14
Then to Him was given dominion and glory and a
kingdom,
That all peoples, nations, and
languages should serve Him.
His dominion is an
everlasting dominion,
Which shall not pass away,
And His kingdom the
one
Which shall not be destroyed.

26And
above the firmament over their heads was
the likeness of a throne, in appearance like a
sapphire stone; on the likeness of the throne
was a likeness with the appearance of a
man high above it. 27Also from
the appearance of His waist and upward I saw, as
it were, the color of amber with the appearance
of fire all around within it; and from the
appearance of His waist and downward I saw, as
it were, the appearance of fire with brightness
all around.

Did God
appear as the “Angel
of the LORD”?
“Malach
Yehovah”
The
Hebrew for the word angel means messenger. In the Old
Testament, we read about a certain angel called the
“Angel of the LORD”. This Angelic being talks first
person, and accepts worship from and magnifies His
name. The Angel also appears in Human form. The book
of Malachi talks about this Angel coming to His Temple.
1 “Behold, I send My messenger, And he will prepare the way before Me.
And the Lord, whom you seek,
Will suddenly come to His temple, Even the
Messenger of the covenant, In whom you delight.
Behold, He is coming,”
Says the Lord
of hosts.
Malachi
3:1
Malachi
is last book of the Old Testament is writing about 425
BC. So the Temple Malachi is writing about is the 2nd
Temple. The
Temple
completed in 516 BC and destroyed by Titus in 70 AD.
Here we are told the Messenger ($alm
Mal'ak)
of the “Covenant”
will come to “His Temple”. The word for Messenger is the same as that for
Angel. So this verse can be read, “The Lord whom you seek, will suddenly come to His temple, The
Angel of the Covenant, in whom you delight”
This
angel of the Covenant must have come prior to the Temple
destruction in 70 AD. The Angel of the Covenant is the
“Angel of the LORD” referred to in scripture.

The Angel of the LORD talks to Hagar
9The
Angel of the
Lord
said to her, “Return to your mistress, and
submit yourself under her hand.” 10Then
the Angel of the
Lord
said to her, “I will multiply your descendants
exceedingly, so that they shall not be counted
for multitude.” 11And the Angel of
the Lord said to her:
“Behold, you are with child,
And you shall bear a son.
You shall call his name Ishmael,
Because the
Lord has heard your affliction.
12 He shall be a wild man;
His hand shall be against every man,
And every man’s hand against him.
And he shall dwell in the presence of all
his brethren.”
13Then
she called the name of the
Lord
who spoke to her,
You-Are-the-God-Who-Sees; for she said,
“Have I also here seen Him who sees me?”

The Angel of the LORD talks to Abraham
11But
the Angel of the
Lord
called to him from heaven and said, “Abraham,
Abraham!”
So he said, “Here I am.”
12And
He said, “Do not lay your hand on the lad, or do
anything to him; for now I know that you fear
God, since you have not withheld your son,
your only son, from Me.”
13Then
Abraham lifted his eyes and looked, and there
behind him was a ram caught in a thicket
by its horns. So Abraham went and took the ram,
and offered it up for a burnt offering instead
of his son. 14And Abraham called the
name of the place, The-Lord-Will-Provide;
as it is said to this day, “In the Mount
of the
Lord it shall be provided.”
15Then
the Angel of the
Lord
called to Abraham a second time out of heaven,
16and said: “By Myself I have
sworn, says the
Lord,
because you have done this thing, and have not
withheld your son, your only son—17blessing
I will bless you, and multiplying I will
multiply your descendants as the stars of the
heaven and as the sand which is on the
seashore; and your descendants shall possess the
gate of their enemies. 18In your seed
all the nations of the earth shall be blessed,
because you have obeyed My voice.”

3. The Angel of the Lord talks to Moses
2And
the Angel of the
Lord
appeared to him in a flame of fire from the
midst of a bush. So he looked, and behold, the
bush was burning with fire, but the bush was
not consumed. 3Then Moses said, “I
will now turn aside and see this great sight,
why the bush does not burn.”
4So
when the
Lord saw that he turned aside to look, God called to him
from the midst of the bush and said, “Moses,
Moses!”
And he said, “Here I am.”

The Angel of the Lord talks to Balaam
And he said, “No.”
31Then
the Lord opened Balaam’s eyes, and he saw the Angel of the
Lord
standing in the way with His drawn sword in His
hand; and he bowed his head and fell flat on his
face. 32And the Angel of the
Lord
said to him, “Why have you struck your
donkey these three times? Behold, I have come
out to stand against you, because your
way is perverse before Me. 33The
donkey saw Me and turned aside from Me these
three times. If she had not turned aside from
Me, surely I would also have killed you by now,
and let her live.”
34And
Balaam said to the Angel of the
Lord,
“I have sinned, for I did not know You stood in
the way against me. Now therefore, if it
displeases You, I will turn back.”
35Then
the Angel of the
Lord
said to Balaam, “Go with the men, but only the
word that I speak to you, that you shall speak.”
So Balaam went with the princes of Balak.

The Angel of the Lord talks to Israel
1Then
the Angel of the
Lord
came up from Gilgal to Bochim, and said: “I led
you up from Egypt and brought you to the land of
which I swore to your fathers; and I said, ‘I
will never break My covenant with you. 2And
you shall make no covenant with the inhabitants
of this land; you shall tear down their altars.’
But you have not obeyed My voice. Why have you
done this? 3Therefore I also said, ‘I
will not drive them out before you; but they
shall be thorns in your side,
and their gods shall be a snare to you.’” 4So
it was, when the Angel of the
Lord
spoke these words to all the children of Israel,
that the people lifted up their voices and wept.

The Angel of the Lord talks to Gideon
11Now
the Angel of the
Lord
came and sat under the terebinth tree which
was in Ophrah, which belonged to
Joash the Abiezrite, while his son Gideon
threshed wheat in the winepress, in order to
hide it from the Midianites. 12And
the Angel of the
Lord
appeared to him, and said to him, “The
Lord
is with you, you mighty man of valor!”
13Gideon
said to Him, “O my lord, if the
Lord
is with us, why then has all this happened to
us? And where are all His miracles which
our fathers told us about, saying, ‘Did not the
Lord bring us up from Egypt?’ But now the
Lord
has forsaken us and delivered us into the hands
of the Midianites.”
14Then
the Lord turned to him and said, “Go in this might of yours,
and you shall save Israel from the hand of the
Midianites. Have I not sent you?”
15So
he said to Him, “O my Lord, how can
I save Israel? Indeed my clan is the
weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least
in my father’s house.”
16And
the Lord said to him, “Surely I will be with you, and you shall
defeat the Midianites as one man.”
17Then
he said to Him, “If now I have found favor in
Your sight, then show me a sign that it is You
who talk with me. 18Do not depart
from here, I pray, until I come to You and bring
out my offering and set it before You.”
And He said, “I will wait until you come back.”
19So
Gideon went in and prepared a young goat, and
unleavened bread from an ephah of flour. The
meat he put in a basket, and he put the broth in
a pot; and he brought them out to Him
under the terebinth tree and presented them.
20The Angel of God said to him, “Take
the meat and the unleavened bread and lay
them on this rock, and pour out the broth.”
And he did so.

The Angel of the Lord talks to Manoah
3And
the Angel of the
Lord
appeared to the woman and said to her, “Indeed
now, you are barren and have borne no children,
but you shall conceive and bear a son…… 6So
the woman came and told her husband, saying, “A
Man of God came to me, and His countenance
was like the countenance of the Angel of
God, very awesome; but I did not ask Him where
He was from, and He did not tell me His
name.
9And
God listened to the voice of Manoah, and the
Angel of God came to the woman again as she
was sitting in the field; but Manoah her husband
was not with her. 10Then the
woman ran in haste and told her husband, and
said to him, “Look, the Man who came to me the
other day has just now appeared to me!”……
13So
the Angel of the
Lord
said to Manoah, “Of all that I said to the woman
let her be careful. 14She may not eat
anything that comes from the vine, nor may she
drink wine or similar drink, nor eat
anything unclean. All that I commanded her let
her observe.”
15Then
Manoah said to the Angel of the
Lord,
“Please let us detain You, and we will prepare a
young goat for You.”
16And
the Angel of the
Lord
said to Manoah, “Though you detain Me, I will
not eat your food. But if you offer a burnt
offering, you must offer it to the
Lord.”
(For Manoah did not know He was the Angel
of the Lord.)
17Then
Manoah said to the Angel of the
Lord,
“What is Your name, that when Your words
come to pass we may honor You?”
18And
the Angel of the
Lord
said to him, “Why do you ask My name, seeing
it is wonderful?”…….
22And
Manoah said to his wife, “We shall surely die,
because we have seen God!”

Is the
“Son of God” God?
Nathan
the prophet in 2nd Samuel 7 first introduces the idea of
the Messiah being the “Son of God” to David: 14. The
LORD through Nathan tells David the Messiah would come
through his family line and the kingdom of David’s
descendent would be forever. Nathan also informs David
the coming King would also be the “Son of God”. Some
interpreters have tried to explain the idea of “Son of
God” in a metaphorical sense, the Messiah proceeded from
God therefore he was the “Son of God” in the same way
Adam was the first created Human and is called in Luke
the son of God. (Luke 3:38).
However, in Psalm 2 this relationship
between the Messiah and the LORD is unique. The whole
world will one day submit to the “King” the LORD
installs. We told to “Kiss” the “Son”; further, we are
told all who put their “Trust” in Him will be blessed.
In Isaiah, the “Son given” is called “Mighty God”,
“Prince of Peace” and “Everlasting Father”. All terms
which if applied to a human being would be blasphemous
if the person was not in fact God.
The nations rage against the “Anointed” and
the LORD. The Messiah is declared as “Begotten”
when he comes into the world. John 3:16, qualifies the
word “Begotten”
with “Only”, meaning that the “Son of God” is of the
same nature of the Father. In addition, for this reason
the Son can be worshipped and called God because He is
God.
C. Son of God
|
|
1.
The Messiah will be the Son of God
12“When
your days are fulfilled and you rest with your
fathers, I will set up your seed after you, who
will come from your body, and I will establish
his kingdom. 13He shall build a house
for My name, and I will establish the throne of
his kingdom forever. 14I will be
his Father, and he shall be My son. If he
commits iniquity, I will chasten him with the
rod of men and with the blows of the sons of
men. 15But My mercy shall not depart
from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I
removed from before you. 16And your
house and your kingdom shall be established
forever before you. Your
throne shall be established forever.”’”
2 Samuel 7:12-16
|
|
2.
The Son of the LORD reigns over the nations
Psalm 2
1 Why do the nations rage, And the people plot a vain
thing?
2 The kings of the earth set themselves, And the rulers
take counsel together, Against the
Lord
and against His Anointed,
saying,
3 “Let us break Their bonds in pieces And cast away
Their cords from us.”
4 He who sits in the heavens shall laugh; The
Lord
shall hold them in derision.
5 Then He shall speak to them in His wrath, And distress
them in His deep displeasure:
6 “Yet I have set My King On My holy hill of
Zion.”
7 “I will declare the decree: The
Lord
has said to Me, ‘You are My
Son, Today I have begotten You.
8 Ask of Me, and I will give You The nations
for Your inheritance, And the ends of
the earth for Your possession.
9 You shall break them with a rod of iron;
You shall dash them to pieces like a potter’s
vessel.’”
10 Now therefore, be wise, O kings; Be instructed, you
judges of the earth.
11 Serve the Lord
with fear, And rejoice with trembling.
12 Kiss the Son, lest He be
angry, And you perish in the way, When
His wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed
are all those who put their trust in Him.
Psalm 2:1-12

3.
The Son of the LORD is called Might God
6
For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is
given; And the government will be upon His
shoulder.
And His name will be called
Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
7
Of the increase of His government and
peace There will be no end,Upon the
throne of David and over His kingdom,
To order it and establish it
with judgment and justice From that time forward,
even forever.
The zeal of the Lord of hosts
will perform this.

4. The will greive over the “Firstborn” Son
who was pierced
10“And
I will pour on the house of David and on the
inhabitants of Jerusalem the Spirit of grace and
supplication; then they will look on Me
whom they pierced. Yes, they will mourn for
Him as one mourns for his
only son, and grieve for Him
as one grieves for a firstborn. 11In
that day there shall be a great mourning in
Jerusalem, like the mourning at Hadad Rimmon in
the plain of Megiddo.

Who is
the “Arm of the Lord”?
What is
the identity of the person described in the 53rd
chapter of Isaiah? The identity is revealed in the
first verse of the 53rd chapter. He is
called the “Arm of the Lord”, and the verse asks, “To
whom is He revealed?” The term or description of the
LORD’S arm is personified in a number of places.
However, here in the 52nd and 53rd
chapter we see that “Arm of the LORD” will suffer, be
beaten, and killed but come back to life.
An arm is extension of the self. Our arms
allow us to interact in the world. Isaiah is revealing
to us information about the nature of the “Suffering
Servant” that could easily be overlooked. The servant
is none other then God himself who extends Himself into
the world in the Body of man to intercede on the behalf
of man because there is no alternative.
D. Arm of the Lord
|
|
1.
All the Earth will see the Arm of the Lord
10 The Lord
has made bare His holy arm In the eyes of
all the nations; And all the ends of the earth
shall see
The salvation of our God.
Isaiah 52:10
13
Behold, My Servant shall deal prudently; He shall
be exalted and extolled and be very high.
14
Just as many were astonished at you, So His
visage was marred more than any man,
And His form more than the sons
of men;
15
So shall He sprinkle many nations.
Kings shall shut their mouths at Him; For what
had not been told them they shall see, And what
they had not heard they shall consider.
Isaiah 52:13-15
|
The world will see the LORD’S Arm
The “Arm” is the righteous Servant who suffers
for the Sins of the World and intercedes on our
behalf. |
2.
The Arm of the Lord is revealed to people
1 Who has believed our report?
And to whom has the arm of the
Lord
been revealed?
2 For He shall grow up before Him as a tender plant, And
as a root out of dry ground.
He has no form or comeliness; And when we see Him,
There is no beauty that we should desire Him.
3 He is despised and rejected by men, A Man of sorrows
and acquainted with grief. And we hid, as it
were, our faces from Him; He was
despised, and we did not esteem Him.
10 Yet it pleased the
Lord
to bruise Him; He has put Him to grief.
When You make His soul an offering for sin, He
shall see His seed, He shall prolong
His days, And the pleasure of the
Lord
shall prosper in His hand.
11 He shall see the labor of His soul, and
be satisfied.By His knowledge My righteous
Servant shall justify many, For He shall bear
their iniquities.
12 Therefore I will divide Him a portion with the great,
And He shall divide the spoil with the strong,
Because He poured out His soul unto death, And
He was numbered with the transgressors, And He
bore the sin of many,And made intercession for
the transgressors.
Isaiah 53:1-12
|
The sufferings of the Arm of the LORD are
described in the 53rd chapter. |
3.
The Arm of the Lord is our Intercessor and Salvation
1 Behold, the Lord’S
hand is not shortened,
That it cannot save;
Nor His ear heavy,
That it cannot hear.
2 But your iniquities have separated you from your God;
And your sins have hidden His face from you,
So that He will not hear.
15
So truth fails,
And he who departs from
evil makes himself a prey.
Then the Lord saw it, and
it displeased Him
That there was no
justice.
16
He saw that there was no man,
And wondered that there was
no intercessor;
Therefore His own arm brought
salvation for Him;
And His own righteousness, it
sustained Him.
17
For He put on righteousness as a breastplate,
And a helmet of salvation on His
head;
He put on the garments of
vengeance for clothing,
And was clad with zeal as a
cloak.
Isaiah 59:1-2,15-17
|
In the 59th chapter of Isaiah the
hopless condition of Man is described.
An observation is made by God, that he saw there
was no man…no one to intercede for man…therefore
we are told “His own arm” brought salvation.
His “Arm” is described in the 53rd
chapter. |
4.
No one was able to bring salvation except the Arm of the
Lord
1 Who is this who comes from
Edom, With dyed garments from Bozrah,
This One who is glorious in His apparel,
Traveling in the greatness of His strength?— “I
who speak in righteousness, mighty to save.”
2 Why is Your apparel red, And Your garments like
one who treads in the winepress?
3 “I have trodden the winepress alone, And from the
peoples no one was with Me.
For I have trodden them in My anger, And trampled
them in My fury; Their blood is sprinkled upon
My garments, And I have stained all My robes.
4 For the day of vengeance is in My heart, And
the year of My redeemed has come.
5 I looked, but there was no one to help, And I
wondered
That there was no one to uphold; Therefore
My own arm brought salvation for Me;
And My own fury, it sustained Me.
6 I have trodden down the peoples in My anger, Made them
drunk in My fury, And brought down their
strength to the earth.”
7 I will mention the lovingkindnesses of the
Lord
And the praises of the
Lord,
According to all that the
Lord
has bestowed on us, And the great goodness
toward the house of
Israel,
Which He has bestowed on them according to His
mercies, According to the multitude of His
lovingkindnesses.
8 For He said, “Surely they are My
people,Children who will not lie.”
So He became their Savior.
9 In all their affliction He was afflicted, And the
Angel of His Presence saved them;
In His love and in His pity He redeemed them;
And He bore them and carried them All the days
of old.
10 But they rebelled and grieved His Holy Spirit; So He
turned Himself against them as an enemy,
And He fought against them.
Isaiah 63:1-10

The Coastlands will trust in the Arm of the Lord
4 “Listen to Me, My people; And give ear to Me, O My
nation: For law will proceed from Me,
And I will make My justice rest As a light of the
peoples.
5 My righteousness is near, My salvation has gone
forth,
And My arms will judge the peoples; The coastlands
will wait upon Me,
And on My arm they will trust.
9
Awake, awake, put on strength, O arm of the
Lord!
Awake as in the ancient days, In
the generations of old.
Are You not the arm
that cut Rahab apart, And wounded the
serpent?
Isaiah 51:4-5,9

6.
The voice of the LORD will be heard and His Arm will
descend
30 The Lord
will cause His glorious voice to be heard, And
show the descent of His arm,
With the indignation of His anger And the
flame of a devouring fire,With
scattering, tempest, and hailstones.
Isaiah 30:30

The Arm of the LORD is coming to rule for the LORD
Isaiah 40
1 “Comfort, yes, comfort My people!” Says your God.
2 “Speak comfort to
Jerusalem, and cry out to her, That her warfare
is ended, That her iniquity is pardoned;
For she has received from the
Lord’s
hand Double for all her sins.”
3 The voice of one crying in the wilderness: “Prepare
the way of the
Lord; Make straight in the desert
A highway for our God.
4 Every valley shall be exalted And every mountain and
hill brought low; The crooked places shall be
made straight And the rough places smooth;
5 The glory of the
Lord shall be revealed, And all flesh
shall see it together; For the mouth of
the Lord
has spoken.”
6 The voice said, “Cry out!” And he said,
“What shall I cry?” “All flesh is grass,
And all its loveliness is like the flower
of the field.
7 The grass withers, the flower fades, Because the
breath of the
Lord blows upon it; Surely the people are grass.
8 The grass withers, the flower fades,
But the word of our God stands forever.”
9 O Zion, You who bring good tidings, Get up into the
high mountain; O Jerusalem,
You who bring good tidings, Lift up your voice with
strength, Lift it up, be not afraid; Say
to the cities of
Judah, “Behold your God!”
10 Behold, the Lord GOD shall come with a strong hand,
And His arm shall rule for Him; Behold,
His reward is with Him,
Isaiah 40:1-10

8.
The Arm of the LORD redeemed His people
14
You are the God who does wonders; You
have declared Your strength among the peoples.
15
You have with Your arm
redeemed Your people, The sons of Jacob and
Joseph.
Selah
Psalm 77:14-15

9.
The Arm of the Lord is the LORD’S Salvation
1 Oh, sing to the
Lord a new song! For He has done
marvelous things;
His right hand and His holy arm have gained Him
the victory.
2 The Lord
has made known His salvation; His righteousness
He has revealed in the sight of the nations.
3 He has remembered His mercy and His faithfulness to
the house of
Israel;
All the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of
our God.
Psalm 98:1-3

|
10.
The Arm of LORD is the Light of the LORD countenance
2
You drove out the nations with Your hand, But
them You planted;
You afflicted the peoples, and
cast them out.
3
For they did not gain possession of the land by
their own sword, Nor did their own arm save
them;
But it was Your right hand,
Your arm, and the light of Your countenance,
Because You favored them.
Psalm 44:2-3

11.
The Arm of the LORD is the promised redemption for Israel
6Therefore
say to the children of Israel: ‘I am the
Lord;
I will bring you out from under the burdens of
the Egyptians, I will rescue you from their
bondage, and I will redeem you with an
outstretched arm and with great judgments.
7I will take you as My people, and I
will be your God. Then you shall know that I
am the
Lord your God who brings you out from
under the burdens of the Egyptians.
Exodus 6:6

Who is
the Glory of the LORD?
The
“Glory of the LORD”, is identified as God, but is also
identified with the Messiah. In Ezekiel, we are told
the “Glory of the LORD” will rule from the
Temple
where his throne will stand. He is also identified in
Human form in Ezekiel 1:25- 2:2.
We see
the “Glory of the LORD” filling the Temple upon its
competition in I Kings 8:11-13. The “Shikana” Glory of
the LORD is God’s visible Glory manifested in the
physical world.
Paul identifies Jesus as the Glory of the
Lord in I Corinthians 2:8
which none of the rulers of this age knew; for
had they known, they would not have crucified
the Lord of glory I Cor 2:8 |
Isaiah also identifies the Messiah as both the
“Arm of the Lord” and the “Glory of the LORD” in
the 40th chapter in the first ten
verses.
The glory of the
Lord shall be revealed, And all flesh
shall see it together; For the mouth of
the Lord
has spoken.”
Isaiah 40:5
When we read about the “Glory of the LORD”, we
are reading about none other then the “Messiah”
in his pre-incarnate Glory. Jesus was the
“Glory of the LORD” revealed for all flesh to
see. |

E. Glory of the
Lord |
|
1. The Glory of the Lord hears
Israel’s complaints against the LORD
7And
in the morning you shall see the glory
of the
Lord; for He hears your complaints
against the
Lord.
But what are we, that you complain
against us?” 8Also Moses said, “This
shall be seen when the
Lord
gives you meat to eat in the evening, and in the
morning bread to the full; for the
Lord
hears your complaints which you make against
Him. And what are we? Your complaints
are not against us but against the
Lord.”
9Then
Moses spoke to Aaron, “Say to all the
congregation of the children of Israel, ‘Come
near before the
Lord,
for He has heard your complaints.’” 10Now
it came to pass, as Aaron spoke to the whole
congregation of the children of Israel, that
they looked toward the wilderness, and behold,
the glory of the
Lord
appeared in the cloud.
11And
the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 12“I have heard the
complaints of the children of Israel. Speak to
them, saying, ‘At twilight you shall eat meat,
and in the morning you shall be filled with
bread. And you shall know that I am
the Lord your God.’”
Exodus 16:7-12

2.
The Glory of the LORD was like a consuming fire
on the top of Mt. Sinai
16Now
the glory of the
Lord
rested on Mount Sinai, and the cloud covered it
six days. And on the seventh day He called to
Moses out of the midst of the cloud. 17The
sight of the glory of the
Lord was like a consuming fire on the top of the
mountain in the eyes of the children of Israel.
18So Moses went into the midst of the
cloud and went up into the mountain. And Moses
was on the mountain forty days and forty
nights..
Exodus 24:16-18

3. The Glory of the LORD consumed the offering
of Aaron
6Then
Moses said, “This is the thing which the
Lord
commanded you to do, and the glory of the
Lord
will appear to you.” 7And Moses said
to Aaron, “Go to the altar, offer your sin
offering and your burnt offering, and make
atonement for yourself and for the people. Offer
the offering of the people, and make atonement
for them, as the
Lord
commanded.”
Leviticus 9:6-7
|
|
4.
Moses and Aaron fall on their faces before the
Glory of the LORD
6So
Moses and Aaron went from the presence of the
assembly to the door of the tabernacle of
meeting, and they fell on their faces. And
the glory of the
Lord
appeared to them.
7Then
the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 8“Take the rod; you
and your brother Aaron gather the congregation
together. Speak to the rock before their eyes,
and it will yield its water; thus you shall
bring water for them out of the rock, and give
drink to the congregation and their animals.”
Numbers 20:6-7
|
|
5. The Glory of the LORD filled the Temple
11so
that the priests could not continue ministering
because of the cloud; for the glory of the
Lord
filled the house of the
Lord.12Then
Solomon spoke:“The
Lord
said He would dwell in the dark cloud.
13 I have surely built You an exalted house,And a place
for You to dwell in forever.”
I Kings 8:11-13

|
6.
The glory of the LORD shall be revealed to all
flesh
5 The glory of the
Lord
shall be revealed, And all flesh shall see it
together;
For the mouth of the
Lord
has spoken.”
6 The voice said, “Cry out!” And he said,
“What shall I cry?”
“All flesh is grass, And all its loveliness
is like the flower of the field.
7 The grass withers, the flower fades, Because the
breath of the
Lord blows upon it;
Surely the people are grass.
8 The grass withers, the flower fades, But the word of
our God stands forever.”
9 O Zion, You who bring good tidings, Get up into the
high mountain;
O Jerusalem, You who bring good tidings, Lift up your
voice with strength,
Lift it up, be not afraid; Say to the cities
of
Judah, “Behold your God!”
10 Behold, the Lord GOD shall come with a strong hand,
And His arm shall rule for Him;Behold, His
reward is with Him, And His work before
Him.
Isaiah 40:5-10

|
7.
The glory of the LORD is the light to the Gentiles
1 Arise, shine; For your light has come!
And the glory of the
Lord
is risen upon you.
2 For behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, And
deep darkness the people;
But the Lord will arise over
you,And His glory will be seen upon you.
3 The Gentiles shall come to your light,
And kings to the brightness of your rising.
Isaiah 60:1-3
|
|
8. The Glory of the LORD had the appearance of
a Man
25A
voice came from above the firmament that was
over their heads; whenever they stood, they let
down their wings.
26And
above the firmament over their heads was
the likeness of a throne, in appearance like a
sapphire stone; on the likeness of the throne
was a likeness with the appearance of a
man high above it. 27Also from
the appearance of His waist and upward I saw, as
it were, the color of amber with the appearance
of fire all around within it; and from the
appearance of His waist and downward I saw, as
it were, the appearance of fire with brightness
all around. 28Like the appearance of
a rainbow in a cloud on a rainy day, so was
the appearance of the brightness all around it.
This was the appearance of the likeness
of the glory of the
Lord.
So when I saw it, I fell on my face, and
I heard a voice of One speaking. 1And
He said to me, “Son of man, stand on your feet,
and I will speak to you.” 2Then the
Spirit entered me when He spoke to me, and set
me on my feet; and I heard Him who spoke to me.
Ezekiel 1:25-2:2
|
|
23So
I arose and went out into the plain, and behold,
the glory of the
Lord
stood there, like the glory which I saw by the
River Chebar; and I fell on my face. 24Then
the Spirit entered me and set me on my feet, and
spoke with me and said to me: “Go, shut yourself
inside your house.
Ezekiel 3:23-24
|
|
4And
the glory of the
Lord
came into the temple by way of the gate which
faces toward the east. 5The Spirit
lifted me up and brought me into the inner
court; and behold, the glory of the
Lord
filled the temple.
6Then
I heard Him speaking to me from the
temple, while a man stood beside me. 7And
He said to me, “Son of man, this is the
place of My throne and the place of the soles of
My feet, where I will dwell in the midst of the
children of Israel forever. No more shall the
house of
Israel
defile My holy name, they nor their kings, by
their harlotry or with the carcasses of their
kings on their high places.
Ezekiel 43:4-7
|
|
4Also
He brought me by way of the north gate to the
front of the temple; so I looked, and behold,
the glory of the
Lord
filled the house of the
Lord;
and I fell on my face.
Ezekiel 44:4

F. The One Pierced |
|
5
But He was wounded for our
transgressions, He was bruised for our
iniquities;
The chastisement for our peace
was upon Him, And by His stripes we are
healed.
Isaiah 53:5
|
|
16
For dogs have surrounded Me;The congregation of
the wicked has enclosed Me.
They pierced My
hands and My feet;
17
I can count all My bones. They look and
stare at Me.
18
They divide My garments among them, And for My
clothing they cast lots.
Psalm 22:16-18

1The
burden of the word of the
Lord
against Israel. Thus says the
Lord,
who stretches out the heavens, lays the
foundation of the earth, and forms the spirit of
man within him: 2“Behold, I will make
Jerusalem
a cup of drunkenness to all the surrounding
peoples, when they lay siege against Judah and
Jerusalem. 9It shall be in that day
that I will seek to destroy all the
nations that come against Jerusalem.
10“And
I will pour on the house of David and on the
inhabitants of Jerusalem the Spirit of grace and
supplication; then they will look on Me whom
they pierced. Yes, they will mourn for Him as
one mourns for his only son, and
grieve for Him as one grieves for a firstborn.
